Where the Water Falls
A Little Angel Production Created by Ash Appadu
Aimed at ages 5-11
A timid monster named Moss embarks on a journey of self discovery after an eerie dream left them feeling restless. Travel with Moss through lush green landscapes at night, as they are guided to a majestic waterfall who invites them behind the cascade. What waits on the other side is unlike anything you’ve ever seen before… Are you this? Are you that? The waterfall will reveal all.
In a vibrant and ethereal exploration of identity, Moss discovers what it means to simply be themselves. Realised through an exciting mix of puppetry styles and techniques with empathy, humour and great imagination at the forefront. Accompanied by enchanting live music and narration, this sensory feast will transport you to a watery wonderland.
Ash Appadu’s debut show created as part of their Puppetry Design traineeship, is an exciting celebration of all they’ve learnt and discovered so far with the support of Little Angel Theatre.
Age guidance
Where the Water Falls is aimed at ages 5-11. The show explores themes of identity, inner conflict and self-discovery through visual storytelling with small moments of narration, and uses abstract puppets to represent the feelings of the main character. Younger children may not understand the narrative, and may find the atmosphere a little eerie.

About the company
Ash Appadu (they/them) is our Puppetry Design Intern at LAT. We are thrilled to announce that this will be their debut show at LAT. They are an interdisciplinary artist and puppet maker who incorporates puppetry, video and sound to create fictional worlds which explore intersectionality. Ash has recently graduated from Goldsmiths University studying Fine Art and Art history. They also took part in Little Angel Theatre’s Adult Courses in puppetry and a love for all things ‘thing’ was sparked! Combining a passion for research and making Ash proceeded to write academic papers about the potential of puppetry to be deeply impactful to LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC communities as it provided a space to create new worlds. Worlds where all the characters could look like you and champion your stories. There’s so much opportunity to heal through puppetry with empathy as an essential asset of the art form.
Ash has recently had a show at Lewisham Arthouse as an outcome of an awarded residency. The show explored Ash’s Indian heritage and consisted of a large scale, three person goat puppet being paraded around the space, interacting with spectators whilst being accompanied by improvised live soundscapes. During their time at Little Angel Theatre, Ash wishes to continue expanding their knowledge of puppetry design, create new and exciting characters, and learn as much about the fantastic world of puppetry as possible! They also wish to continue learning about the power of puppetry as a tool to bring people together.
