Age Guidance
Boxville is aimed at ages 5-11.
The space will be quite informal and open, with padded mats on the floor around piles of cardboard, and seating blocks towards the back and around some of the sides. There will be up to 55 people at each show.
Yes, this is a very interactive show, with three distinct sections where the audience are asked to craft along with the show, making things out of cardboard and using these to interact with the characters and the story. These interactions are all done as a group however and are guided by the cast. You are free to take part in as much or as little as you want. You can leave and re-enter the auditorium at any time.
There are larger than life characters and puppets in the show, including a robot, two large crabs and a dragon. Some have found the dragon a little daunting. The dragon is active towards the end of the show, roaring and moving around the front of the space, operated by two performers who are clearly visible. It is also clearly made from cardboard. Videos of the dragon can be found on our director and designer’s social media – @SamuelJWilde.
All ages are welcome at our shows and age ranges can only be a rough guide, but please bear in mind that Boxville was not specially designed for under-fives. The story is quite straightforward and the main focus of the production is that children have an opportunity to have a hands-on, playful and fun experience crafting and interacting. The crafting involves using tools so younger children will need more support from accompanying adults.
