Location: Studios – we have two venues, this performance takes place at our Studios, a short walk from the theatre. Click for more information.

One Moment In Time’s adaptation of Joan Aiken’s classic book conjures a world of magic, mayhem and moonlit adventures! Journey with us from the snow covered landscapes of the north to the fiery deserts of the east, encountering brave children, talking camels and one extremely lazy wizard.

Dynamic physical storytelling, live music, hand-crafted shadow puppets and moving paper scenery bring these timeless tales alive again for a new generation of story listeners. Featuring an original score composed and performed live, with strings, wind and percussion.

This play is based on the original book A Necklace of Raindrops © Joan Aiken and Jan Pienkowski 2009, published by Random House Children’s Publishers UK.

Illustration by Jan Pienkowski. Reproduced by kind permission of Joan Aiken’s estate.

A Necklace of Raindrops is aimed at ages 4 – 11.

School Workshop Offer:

Learn about the art of crankie scroll and shadow puppet making, from the team who made the show. Create your very own story and make a crankie scroll and shadow puppets to go with it!

Potential Curriculum links:  English (exploring settings and story), Topic (making puppets and scroll  themed around your topic), Science (exploring shadow and light), Art and Design, Design and Technology.

Time Needed:  We  work with one class for a whole day to create the story, make the scroll, the  puppets and have a go at using them.  Another class could be invited to come and see an informal performance at the end of the day.

Age:  Shadow puppet making is not suitable for younger children as it involves intricate cutting, so we recommend these workshops for Years 2-6. We can run a simplified version of this workshop featuring story building and crankie scroll making without the shadow puppet element for Reception and year 1.

Cost: £410+VAT. Please note that for bookings where rail travel is necessary (beyond tube and London overground reach) or if a school/venue is more than 15 minutes walk from the nearest tube/London overground station and a bus or taxi is required additional travel expenses may be added to the fee.  This will be agreed on booking if necessary.

Dates available: 13 – 24 May and 3 – 14 June 2019
