Puppet Picnic – Important Information

Sadly, we are having to cancel our Puppet Picnic

Despite robust precautions in the rehearsal room, a confirmed case of Coronavirus has been identified in our company for The Wishing Tree. The whole team are now isolating which means the production will not be ready to go ahead in its scheduled dates in August. As a result of this we have sadly had to cancel the Puppet Picnic in Islington Square as The Wishing Tree was the cornerstone of the festival. It is a hugely important production to us as an organisation, with a strong community focus – we are passionate about giving a voice to our local children and community. The Wishing Tree will now take place from Thursday 9 September to Sunday 26 September at Little Angel Studios. We will be contacting people who have booked tickets so far to offer new show dates and times. Public booking for the new dates will reopen towards the end of the week.

We were also looking forward to welcoming several visiting theatre companies to our festival. Where it is possible, we will move these performances to our main theatre site w/c 16 August. Booking for these shows will open as soon as possible. We know individual artists and theatre companies have been severely impacted by the pandemic. We are committed to finding them a platform to perform where possible and will be honouring their guarantees regardless of whether we can re-programme them.

This situation is a huge blow to the organisation. We had received significant funding to make The Wishing Tree – and we are really grateful to our supporters – but we are currently estimating that it will cost an additional £20k to reschedule, not an insignificant amount given our size. None of this is underwritten by insurance, the government or any other external funding. If you are able to make a donation to help us adapt to this continuously challenging situation, we would be incredibly grateful. You can donate online here.

We couldn’t be more thankful to the ongoing support from our audiences who have continued to support our digital and live work. We would also like to thank our partners, Islington Square, Megans and Maggie and Rose for their support for the Festival.
