What is Spectrum Youth Theatre?
Spectrum Youth Theatre (SYT) is a puppet youth theatre for young people with Aspergers or high functioning autism, set up by autism specialists Slavka Jovanovic and Joanne Skapinker. It began in May 2014, thanks to funding from the Stanley Thomas Johnson Foundation. We are now looking for participants to embark on an exciting new theatre project.

What do we plan to do?
Spectrum Youth Theatre will be working with a professional team over 2 terms to create their own show to be performed on the Little Angel stage in March 2016.

Following in the footsteps of film maker Tim Burton the group will explore the genre of Gothic Horror (our chosen theme for all youth & adult shows this year). Using the story of Mary Shelley’s famous novel, Frankenstein, SYT will devise a unique piece of puppet theatre. The company will create the story and puppets, as well as perform as puppeteers in the final piece.

Who will we work with?
We are excited to announce a new collaboration with Smoking Apples Theatre Company. Smoking Apples have been creating original, puppetry productions since 2010. They have a real passion for developing the form of puppetry and visual theatre, believing that more often than not, words are not always needed to tell the best stories. The company started working with the Little Angel Theatre in 2014 on one of their previous shows CELL which premiered at FIRSTS Festival 2014. Since, then, the company have very much become part of the Little Angel Theatre family and continue to work with them on the development of their new show In Our Hands alongside running the Spectrum Youth Theatre.

SYT will be invited to see In Our hands when it appears in the Suspense Festival on 8th November 2015: http://www.suspensefestival.com/events/smoking-apples-in-our-hands
Regarding pastoral care, we welcome back Kinga Nadolna (Pastoral Care Leader) and Ainoa Mela Lopez (Pastoral Care Assistant). There will also be 2 additional assistants on the team.
