Support from Arts Council England
“We are delighted to have been awarded Catalyst: Evolve support from Arts Council England. The timing perfectly supports the implementation of our new strategy.
Our turnover and activity has grown steadily for the last eight consecutive years and we have worked hard to establish a sustainable financial model without core funding. However, we are now making a step change in terms of artistic risk and social impact. Our long-term success has always been down to our ability to innovate artistically. Our new model makes us more artist-centred, supporting artists with more R&D time and better conditions, as well as reducing the burden on our box office targets to allow us to present a more diverse range of work to our audiences. Our community work starts first and foremost in our own Islington, the fifth most deprived borough in London with one of the greatest disparities between rich and poor in the country, as well as one of the highest rates of child poverty. We believe we have a role in changing the cultural landscape here, to make our art accessible to the whole community and to reduce barriers to engagement on a long-term basis.
To do this we need a greater level of financial support. Catalyst: Evolve helps us to make this ask with greater credibility, to a wide range of potential philanthropic sources, and provides a huge stimulus in helping us achieve our ambitions. Watch this space for further developments as we roll them out. We couldn’t be more excited about the next phase of our development.”
