Puppetry Foundation Course

About the Course
Designed for absolute beginners, it is open to all those who have always wanted to have a go at puppetry but never had the opportunity to do so.  Explore a variety of different puppet forms and learn the basics of puppet manipulation and making over 10 weeks.

About the Tutor
Oliver Hymans is an award-winning London-based puppet artist, theatre maker and arts education specialist. He trained on the MA Scenography course at Central Saint Martins in 2006 and has since worked on a variety of theatre projects as a director, designer, performer and puppeteer. From designing an outdoor theatre production in Kerala, India to performing in window galleries, and immersive theatre productions, Oliver is interested in all elements of the theatre making process.

Oliver is passionate about puppetry! His work has been presented in theatres and beyond, including Emily Rising at Little Angel Theatre (2016), at Tate Modern for the first ever Uniqlo Tate Late (2016), The National Gallery for their Chinese New Year celebrations (2015, 2017), the internationally renowned Circo Para Todos, the National School of Circus for disadvantaged youth in in Colombia (2012). His puppetry designs have twice won awards at the Hackney Carnival with the Arcola Theatre, with whom Oliver has also directed two outdoor giant puppet operas in East London.

Please note that the same course is repeated on Mondays and Tuesdays in the spring term (10 sessions of 2 hours).

Concession bookings

Concession bookings must be made in person at the theatre, our Box Office is open 7 days a week from 10.00am – 5.00pm.  Please bring the relevant documentation with you. Call ahead to check availability of places on the course you want to book (0207 2261787).

All participants who attend at least 80% of the course will receive a certificate of attendance at the end of the course.
