Puppet Construction Course – Dog Puppet

About the Course
The emphasis in this course will be on the ergonomics of puppet making/design. Students will learn how to build a simple, strong, expressive mechanism into a simple sculpt. Working from a prototype, they will build their own copy.
Designed for a single operator with rods from above, the prototype will be a smaller than life-size dog, with some internal movement in the body and neck, a nodding head and a moving mouth.
This course is suitable for beginners as well as those with more experience who want find out more or fill gaps in their knowledge.
About the Tutor
Peter O’Rourke is a designer and director. For Little Angel Theatre Peter has created five productions with the joint roles of director, designer and puppet maker including ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and ‘The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me’. As designer/puppet maker he worked on many of LAT’s productions including ‘Macbeth’ (set only), ‘Jabberwocky’, ‘The Mouse Queen’ (whose tour included a run at the New Victory Theatre in New York and The Hampstead Theatre) and ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’ (including a season at the RSC).
Furthermore Peter has made puppets for Spitting Image, Theatre-Rites, Kneehigh, Indefinite-Articles, the Royal Shakespeare Company and The Royal Opera House.
