Adult Community Activities

“Having an expert there to teach and problem solve is incredible and I am able to try lots of different techniques and projects with great support.  But, the real importance to me is how the group supports each other, talks about their lives, shared food and stories. It is a really joyful and safe space, and I love it!”

Knit and Natter Participant

Knit and Natter

Led by knitting expert Anna Maltz, our weekly knitting mornings provide a welcoming space for residents to develop a new skill whilst enjoying pastries, tea, and friendly conversation.

This programme is particularly popular with adults over 55, many of whom live independently and close to our buildings. The weekly sessions are special opportunities for participants to connect with their neighbours, reducing feelings of isolation amongst the residents around our studios. Sebbon Street, where our studios are located, ranks among the 20% most deprived areas in the UK (2019 indices of multiple deprivation), making this project a crucial community-building activity for many of our neighbours. Knit and Natter sessions have become a vital part of their social life, offering a welcoming and accessible space that fosters lifelong learning. However, due to unfortunate cuts in council funding, we have had to reduce the number of Knit and Natter sessions offered and reduce the level of community interaction that we can offer.

Arts and Chat

Arts and Chat offers a welcoming space for adults to unwind and explore their creativity, with evening sessions designed to accommodate childcare needs.

Each month, participants dive into a new artistic practice, often led by community members but with the support of Little Angel staff. This collaborative approach not only nurtures creativity but also empowers participants to take ownership of their artistic journey.

From air-dry pottery and canvas painting to Indian ink illustration, we have had the joy of partnering with local organisations, including ceramic studios and the Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration, who bring their expertise to enrich our evenings.

Arts and Chat is more than just a creative outlet but this program provides a crucial source of social support, strengthening community bonds and promoting mental wellbeing. Little Angel Theatre has created a dedicated community space where everyone, regardless of their background, is welcome. This, paired with the therapeutic power of the arts, fosters a sense of comfort, connection, and a renewed sense of community.

Your generosity could keep Knit & Natter alive and vibrant and together, we can continue to weave a stronger, more connected community.
